Journalism and Communications

I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself as well as explain to you all the exciting opportunities the Pratt Community College Journalism department has to offer. My name is Heather Wilson and I am the new Journalism Intructor/Adviser here at PCC. I am thrilled to be here at and am even more thrilled with all the enhancements being made in the area of Journalism.

This year alone, we have remodeled the newsroom and Journalism lab, we have also added a flat screen television to the newsroom, allowing us to keep up with breaking news that happens around the world. Another needed enhancement was updating the Journalism lab with the widescreen monitors that rotate for greater practicallity when working with newspaper size pages. The computers in the J lab have been updated with In Design Creative Suite 3 software. We have also purchased a broadcast quality video camera and have installed video editing software in our lab to produce broadcast quality news stories.

Currently the department has been working on a plan to put The Pratt American student newspaper online, allowing students the opportunity for personal skill growth as they learn the basics of working with the web. As you can tell we have been hard at work this semester. I hope that you take the time to schedule a campus visit so you can experience first hand all the opportunities PCC has to offer. Call or email me at 620-450-2146 or heatherw@prattcc.edu.
